Due to extensive storm damage during the fall and winter seasons, BC Parks released an advisory that the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail will be closed throughout the summer of 2025. The trail has been deemed unsafe and impassable, with damaged bridges, unstable slopes, washouts, fallen trees, and blocked sections.
In addition to the trail closure, the following backcountry campsites are also closed:
- Bear Beach
- Chin Beach
- West Sombrio
- Little Kuitshie
- Payzant
However, visitors can still access the following campsites, which will remain open:
- East Sombrio
- Mystic Beach
- China Beach (opens May 15)
BC Parks has not provided specific dates for reopening the trail and campsites, but they will reopen in phases as repairs are completed. For more information, please visit bcparks.ca/juan-de-fuca-park/
